In Motion
After
many years of research to produce a teaching and learning system that
would be user-friendly to the teacher as well as the students, we developed
what we call, LANGUAGE BY OSMOSIS.* We integrated a form of Total
Physical Response (TPR) that, from the very first lesson, has proven to have
awesome results, and is fun for all ages. The approach works best in group
participation but can be used as a home-study as well, particularly with
the accompanying CD. *OSMOSIS = The effortless absorbtion of ideas, feelings, attitudes, etc., as if by biological osmosis....
Webster's New World Dictionary
With
NO pressure to speak the language, in the beginning, we use immersion
commands and response methods accompanied with workbooks, stick figures
and follow-up home work lessons. Also, Donna May has introduced different
types of BINGO, using stick figures, colors and forms as a pleasant diversion
but, a worthwhile teaching tool. In the following demonstration
some of the commands in Lesson One depict the stick figures. The student associates
the command with the figures and will later respond by acting out the
command. This helps to associate the command with the figure which makes
translation into English unnecessary. This method is repeated with different
scenarios throughout each lesson. The buzz words being, review and repetition. |
